As a provider of containers, GLASEL sets out and engages in environmental activities as one aspect of corporate policy.
In terms of products, the company is implementing a variety of measures to promote the development of a recycling-oriented society, including the widespread adoption of environmentally friendly plastic containers, the development of refillable containers that can be reused over and over, and the recycling of glass bottles as well as the reduction of their use.
Never satisfied with the status quo, we will continue to see it as our mission to make an even greater contribution to society by devising environmentally friendly containers and systems.
Use and promotion of environmentally friendly resin containers
As environmental and energy-related issues such as global warming and the exhaustion of oil reserves come into close-up, the focus is now on carbon-neutral* plant-based plastics (biomass), which pose less of an environmental burden, as substitutes for conventional petroleum-based plastics.
GLASEL handles a wide range of environmentally friendly resins, and is putting particular effort into encouraging the widespread use of bio-PE.
* Carbon-neutral : Plastics made from plant material are environmentally friendly because they do not theoretically result in net CO2 emissions even if they are incinerated on disposal, as the plants from which they are made absorb CO2 as they grow.
Bio-polyethylene (bio-PE) is manufactured using ethylene derived from bioethanol, which is made from plant material as its raw ingredient. A product made entirely from bio-PE contains 96% biomass-derived material, which reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 70% compared with petroleum-based PE. An advantage is that following ethylene production, polyethylene manufacture follows exactly the same process as for petroleum-based PE, so it can easily be shaped by using the same molding devices and molds. It is almost exactly the same color as conventional PE, and has an equivalent track record in terms of its ability to withstand heat and shock as well as ease of processing and lack of smell. It is also sufficiently chemical-resistant for use with products such as cosmetics and shampoos, and has a good track record in this area.
The material described is PE, and all GLASEL products made with PE can also be made with Bio-PE*. Products that are made with a minimum Bio-PE ratio of 25% are able to be labeled with BP mark after receiving certification from the JBPA (Japan BioPlastics Association).

Solar panel installation on Head Office roof
Solar power generation is one effective solution to energy resource issues, with their major feature being their clean nature, as no CO2 is emitted in the electricity generation process.
GLASEL has installed solar panels on the roof of its Head Office. This is one way of helping to preserve the global environment by utilizing environmentally friendly clean energy.
